The TELEFUNKEN U47 large-diaphragm condenser microphone is built around the dual-diaphragm M7 capsule, which features cardioid and omnidirectional polar patterns to suit any recording situation. Cardioid mode delivers a tight, focused capture with a touch of proximity effect that's perfect for vocals and close-mic’d sources, while Omnidirectional mode is ideal for recording acoustic groups, backing vocals, drum kits, and natural reverberation. The dual-sided M7 capsule has been painstakingly recreated to deliver the same sonic signature, transient response, and off-axis behavior as the original 47. This iconic capsule provides full-bodied cardioid and omnidirectional frequency range with a naturally rising presence that flatters vocals, acoustic guitars, and pretty much everything else.
The TELEFUNKEN U47 tube microphone’s amplification stage is based around the TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik VF14K metal-envelope vacuum tube—a modern reissue of the original VF-14M U 47 tube that delivers the same harmonic richness and gentle saturation that made the mic famous. High headroom and low noise floor mean clean, professional sound even on whisper-quiet vocals. Following the tube stage, the BV8 output transformer is another huge part of the TELEFUNKEN U47's iconic tube condenser sound.
