The Origin Effects Halcyon Blue Overdrive is a low-to-mid gain drive pedal, equipped with Origin's proprietary Adaptive Circuitry. Inspired by the early '90s Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal, the Halcyon Blue Overdrive's soft-clipping circuit and broad midrange emphasis deliver the thick, articulate tones that made the Bluesbreaker famous. Get amp-like edge-of-breakup sounds into a clean amp, or push your amp further into overdrive, without losing definition.

The Adaptive Circuitry in the Halcyon Blue Overdrive allows the pedal's boosted midrange to gradually fade away as the pedal cleans up, taking you back to a full-range clean tone as you roll back the volume knob. Add in the extra gain and low-end weight from the MOD setting on our VOICE switch, and you have a classic overdrive tone with more nuance and responsiveness than ever before.

THE DETAILS

The Halcyon Blue Overdrive's party trick is its ADAPT switch. This allows the pedal's boosted midrange to gradually fade away as the pedal cleans up, giving you classic Bluesbreaker tone with your guitar cranked, but revealing the full spectrum of your clean tone as you roll back the volume knob. This breakthrough feature means you never have to tread that fine line, wondering if your drive pedal should be on or off.

The Bluesbreaker has been the starting point for many highly-regarded overdrive pedals and the Halcyon Blue Overdrive's MOD setting on the VOICE switch is our own take on the modded Bluesbreaker concept. This mode adds a different diode clipping characteristic, more gain and a warmer frequency response. Perfect for adding depth to single coil pickups or creating rich humbucker lead tones.

This classic soft-clipping circuit retains some dry, unaffected signal as clipping occurs. The DRY control lets you tweak the level of this dry signal for even more shades of overdrive. Maintain dynamics and clarity when boosting an overdriven amp, or get a harder-edged, more compressed drive sound that works great with clean amp tones.

Designed and built in the UK to Origin's exacting high standards, the Halcyon Blue Overdrive is our tip of the hat to a unique and musical overdrive tone, taken to new heights of playability.

Please note: the Halcyon Blue is powered by a mains adapter only (not included). Origin has dispensed with the usual 9V battery option, both to save space and to adopt a high-current approach, yielding lower noise levels and superior tone. Origin Effects pedals are designed to deliver impeccable performance using a range of power supplies. A regulated power supply specifically designed for guitar pedal applications is recommended as power supplies which do not have sufficient internal filtering can result in unwanted noise.
