In honor of our Microphone Mission, a new effort to bring better mics to your recording studio, we've started assembling some incredible microphone packages filled with industry standards, personal favorites and more. For this particular bundle, Vintage King co-owner Mike Nehra has created a group of three microphones that can be summed up in one word - Powerful. Used by the giants of rock 'n' roll, the Beyer Dynamic M 160 and AKG D12 VR can be best applied to drums for monstrous results, but are also perfect for other aspects of recording including guitar and vocals.

Beyer Dynamic M 160

A must have for the ribbon mic lover, the Beyer Dynamic M 160's unique hypercardioid pattern sets it apart from Coles and Royer microphones. Great on overheads, guitars, room mics or vocals when wanting superior background noise rejection. This was a favorite of Jimi Hendrix as a guitar mic.

The amazing drum sound on Led Zeppelin's "When The Levee Breaks" was achieved with just a pair of M 160's placed at the top of a tall staircase with the drums below.

The M 160 features a hypercardioid polar pattern with a noise attenuation of 25 dB at 110°, the M 160 is an outstanding microphone which is very effective for all types of remote and in-studio voice reproduction. In the recording studio, the M 160 is recommended for miking string instruments such as violins, violas, cellos and for pianos, saxophones as well as for hi-hat and toms. The non-glare black surface of the M 160 and its small dimensions allow the unobtrusive use in TV or film studios. In conjunction with the M 130 dynamic double ribbon microphone the M 160 is ideal for stereo recordings in MS technique.

AKG D12 VR

The AKG D12 VR is a large-diaphragm cardioid dynamic microphone. Designed specifically for kick-drum recording applications, the microphone has a thin diaphragm to enhance the low frequency performance.

Without phantom power, the microphone delivers the pure character of the sound source. With phantom power enabled, one of three switchable active-filter presets can be used to quickly adapt the microphone response to suit the desired kick-drum sound. The filter setting can be controlled using a switch on the microphone body. In this mode the output level is also reduced by 10 dB automatically.
