The BURL Audio B16 Mothership is a 2U, 2-slot version of the revolutionary B80 Mothership, Burl Audio’s signature product. Simply put, the B80 Mothership has redefined digital recording, and now the legendary sound can be found in a smaller, more portable B16 Mothership. Utilizing technology developed for the B80, the new B16 Mothership uses the exact same I/O cards as the B80 Mothership, continuing Burl Audio's deep dedication to analog, Class A circuitry. The result is not only heard, but it is also felt. The Mothership stands out from every other interface on the market not because it is colored, but because it does not sterilize the source.
Using a card-based system, and a heavy-duty 2U chassis, the B16 Mothership employs 2 daughter card slots with an internal power supply and your choice of Motherboard for Digilink, MADI, Dante, or SoundGrid connectivity. Every ADC channel uses a proprietary BX1 transformer and every DAC channel has the latest Burl Audio discrete op-amp, BOPA4.
For anyone who has yearned for a Mothership in a smaller format, this is a dream come true. Check out our Buyer's Guide to learn more about the Burl B80 and B16 Motherships and their respective AD/DA option cards.
BMB4 SOUNDGRID MOTHERBOARD
The BMB4 features an Ethernet port for 64 IO channels of Waves SoundGrid connectivity. SoundGrid is an Audio-over-Ethernet networking and processing technology developed by Waves. SoundGrid provides extremely low-latency, high-channel-count audio processing using standard Intel CPUs and 1 Gbps Ethernet networks for studio, live sound, and other real-time professional audio applications. Real-time audio processing is performed on standard Intel-based plugin servers, running a Waves-customized real-time version of Linux. Waves SoundGrid audio over Ethernet technology is a robust, proven system for audio over IP networking. Amongst the competing standards for audio over IP, SoundGrid boasts impressive, low latency. With 6 BAD8s and 4 BDA8s a 48×32 IO can be achieved. With 2 BAD8s and 8 BDA8s a 16×64 IO can be achieved. With the configurability of the Mothership the IO possibilities are limitless.
- 1 SoundGrid Ethernet port
- 64-channel IO at 44.1k, 48k, 88.2k, 96k
- 2 BNC Word Clock outputs
- 1 BNC Word Clock input
BAD8 DAUGHTER CARD
The BAD8 is an 8-channel analog-to-digital daughter card for the B80 and B16 MOTHERSHIP - the result of over 25 years of R&D A/D design experience. Following on the overwhelming success of the B2 BOMBER ADC and the BAD4, the BAD8 employs a next-generation analog circuit path and the latest in analog to digital conversion. This is a no-compromise design utilizing all class-A, discrete transistor circuitry and the legendary BX1 transformer coupled input.
The BAD8 benefits from the new form factor of the BX1 transformer, allowing for more channel density. The BAD8 also boasts the latest analog-to-digital conversion technology giving it a great tone with even greater detail and amazing low latency.
- 8-channel ADC
- 8-channel DB25 connectivity (Tascam style)
- All class-A, NextGen Analog
- Proprietary, high definition, BURL Audio BX1 transformer
- Avid delay matching
- ADC filter select
B22-ALPS ORCA DAUGHTER CARD
Building on the reputation of the B26 ORCA for sonic superiority, BURL Audio introduces the ultimate in control room monitoring for the B16 Mothership, the Burl B22 ORCA Control Room Monitor daughter card. The B22 ORCA utilizes the same analog, all-discrete circuit path philosophy as other BURL Audio products with an emphasis on the ultimate in sonic transparency and 3D stereo imaging. The ALPS version includes an ALPS audiophile potentiometer.
Featuring the BURL NextGen BOPA14 op-amps, the B22 delivers tight bass and high definition throughout the audio spectrum. Instruments and mixes have a more real, 3D sound, with wider stereo image and even more depth while preserving the original shape and harmonic balance of the source.
The B22 ORCA employs 4 DAC channels. The first two are mix/mastering grade DAC channels with switchable BX5 output transformers. These channels can be used to feed a separate headphone amp or a mix/mastering chain. You can also use these channels to send out tracks for analog processing. The second two DAC channels feed the main monitor section which features two stereo speaker outputs and one stereo headphone output.
The B22 ORCA Control Room Monitor daughter card coupled with the B16 Mothership and the B4 MIC/LINE input card provides an amazing audiophile desktop recording rig.
