Ashman Acoustics SOM50 SuperOmni Microphone Pair (Demo Deal)

The Ashman Acoustics SOM50 SuperOmni Microphone is a small diaphragm electret condenser microphone featuring an unusual SuperOmni polar pattern that is omnidirectional at bass frequencies, with progressively increasing directivity above 2 kHz. This pattern is created by the acoustical diffraction of the spherical microphone head, inspired by expensive German mics based on the same principle. The SOM50 is American Made by American Musicians.

• Close miked snare drum, top and bottom

The SOM50 picks up more room tone than a typical directional microphone, but since the pressure transducer of the SOM50 has no proximity effect it may be placed close to the sound source while maintaining balanced bass response. With the SOM50 it is typically easy to find the “sweet spot” and obtain excellent results.
