Warming Your Digital Signal With Rupert Neve Design's New Master Buss Converter

By Eric Allen

When you think about the classic circuits Rupert Neve has created, you think warmth. With the release of Rupert Neve Design's Master Buss Converter, you'll be able to track, mix and master with a versatile A/D design that offers that classic color, as well as transparency.

The key to this multi-faceted approach is the unit's newly designed analog drive circuitry. With this option, you will be able to feed converters with a signal sent through either a Class A transformerless path or a path with audio transformers featuring Rupert Neve Design's Silk Red and Blue circuity. If you decide to take the transformerless route, you'll get pristine conversion that is completely transparent. Go with the Silk Red and Blue path and you'll be able to work with that signature tone and sonic character Rupert is known for.

The new Master Buss Converter includes all the tools one would expect in a high-class audio converter. The Master Buss Conveter features 24-bit/192kHZ conversion, high-resolution metering, word clock I/O, analog XLR inputs, and AES, S/PDIF, and TOSLINK outputs. The converter also has four reference level calibration standards from -14dBFs to -20dBFS, which can be selected to match external converters.

Rupert Neve Designs' Master Buss Converter also incorporates a full analog limiter. The design has a dual purpose as it is meant to act as a sculpting tool, but also can be a barely-there safety tool for live broadcast or tracking sessions. The limiter features a built-in side chain high-pass filter and has a Class A amp stage that can add 20dB of clean gain. There is also a Link switch that enables you to use the limiter in dual mono or stereo.

Watch the videos below to learn more about the Rupert Neve Designs Master Buss Converter and find out how mastering engineer Pete Lyman has already started using the unit at Infrasonic Mastering.
